Next stop a new house for millionaire bus driver Steve

Steve said, “As the people hopped on, I was chuckling to myself. There I was a bus driver, with a load of passengers on board, and nobody knows I’m a millionaire.”

Recounting the story of his amazing win, the 51-year-old from Holsworthy in South Devon said he went to the supermarket to buy some bread and a doner kebab from the shop next door. He went home with a £1MMillion prize and a distinctly cold kebab.

Steve said, “I needed some bits and bobs from the Co-Op. But I went into the kebab shop next door first to order a doner. I then shopped in the store for some bread and stuff and got to the till to pay. I decided to buy a Scratchcard and scratched it when I got outside.”

When Steve showed the Scratchcard to staff at the Co-Op they confirmed he needed to contact The National Lottery. After collecting his kebab, he drove home with his mind racing. He said, “I can’t remember much of the journey, as I was a bit emotional. I am not embarrassed to say I shed a tear.”

When he got home, Steve sat in the kitchen and tried to eat his kebab. He said, “In the end I just put it in the bin. I then told my landlady that I needed to make an important call and asked if I could use her landline to ring the National Lottery people.”

When his big win was confirmed, Steve called his mum and his partner Heidi to share the amazing news. He put the winning Scratchcard in an envelope and slipped it under his pillow for safe keeping.

Having rented all his life, he is looking forward to buying his first home with Heidi, a 51-year-old clock maker. The couple have already booked a holiday together and Steve has treated himself to a new car.

Steve said, “The win will change everything. We’ll have a home for the first time ever, with no mortgage and still have enough for retirement. I will continue working, so will Heidi, but we plan to have more holidays. Life is pretty good.”
