John’s singing for joy after scooping a £1Million prize
As a singer in a barbershop quartet, John Wallman is an expert at hitting the right notes. But after scooping a £1Million National Lottery win in the special EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker draw, the 76-year-old tunesmith was singing for joy.
John said, “I read the notification and it said I had won £1Million, but I didn’t really believe it. I called the National Lottery and even when I heard the words – ‘congratulations, you’re a winner’ – I just couldn’t take it in.
“My wife came downstairs and when she saw me in tears on the phone she thought I’d been scammed or that something bad had happened!”
The EuroMillions Millionaire Maker guarantees to create at least one millionaire in every draw. But the special draw on 25th March 2022 guaranteed to make 10 UK millionaires. Lucky John was one of them.
His good luck didn’t end there. On his way to tell family members about his amazing £1Million win, John discovered he’d won £5 on another National Lottery ticket he bought on a whim.
John’s great passion is singing. He is a member of Sweet Harmony Barbershop Chorus, a group regularly using its talents to raise funds for charity. He said, “I find singing so liberating and I love performing with Sweet Harmony. We perform for all sorts of local groups and at events. All we ask is for a donation, then, at the end of each year, everything we’ve raised is split between 6 nominated charities.”
The first item on John’s list after becoming a National Lottery millionaire is booking a holiday in the sun. He said, “It’s been such a rollercoaster and I get emotional every time I talk about winning, so I’ve not really had a chance to think about what I am going to do with the money. Booking a holiday, perhaps a cruise, is definitely the first thing though so we can relax, unwind and make some plans.”
